We are very pleased to announce that the first stage of our renovation project has been completed now that the disabled toilet and shower-room has been finished.

The pictures in this article do not do justice to the overall finish and the behind the scenes elements of insulation to floor, walls and ceiling which should make the shower-room the cosiest place in the community centre.  We are hoping to undertake a much more extensive upgrade to the premises and site as a whole in 2015 and are taking a positive approach to maintenance these days with the recent decoration of the existing toilets which makes them much more presentabl

We would therefore invite anyone who has previously used the building to come and inspect the building and contribute your suggestions for further improvements as we go along.  We look forward to having feed-back from anyone using the centre for whatever purpose so that we can address issues which will make the centre a more attractive proposition for rental so that it remains a vibrant centre for our community.

Our current rental terms are:

  • Overnight – maximum capacity 15 people
    • Min. charge £50 per night for up to 6 people.
    • Additional persons - £5 per night per person.
  • Day sessions
    • Half day morning or afternoon £30 per session
    • Whole day £50 per day
  • Evening session
    • With afternoon set-up £50 per evening

Future Proofing the Community Centre

We have been fortunate to receive a grant from Cadwyn Clywd to engage the services of two fund-raising professionals, Dave Crane and Lorna Jenner who have worked with the committee to put together a number of grant applications for a major renovation of the old school.  Each grant is a stand-alone project although obviously each element would be most effective if we receive grants to cover the project as a whole.  The aim is to bring the fabric of the building and the grounds up to date to make it both more cost efficient to run and more attractive to users which will in turn generate more income for the centre so that it can continue to be used for community events. The main elements of the reconstruction are outlined below:

Site/External Works

  • Remove playground retaining walls and steps.
  • Reinstate lower retaining wall and reshape the bank with one new stair access.
  • Regrade the rear field to give a level central section.
  • Convert one playground for parking and re-tarmac the drive-way for ease of access.
  • Make good the retaining wall by the drive.
  • Repair/replace boundary walls and fences.
  • Make a new entrance and porch into the hall through the North wall for disabled access.
  • Brick up existing stairs by shower-room for store cupboard.
  • Repair and repaint exterior woodwork and guttering.

Internal Works

  • Lift, repair and replace damaged flooring.
  • Upgrade Kitchen.
  • Replace existing windows with double-glazing.
  • Re-arrange the entrance and kitchen doors.
  • Re-wire throughout with low energy light fittings.

Energy Efficiency Works

  • Insulate walls and lofts.
  • Replace heaters with efficient air-source heat exchange system.
  • Install some solar panels to power the heat source pumps

Activity Centred Works

  • Small Removable Stage area.
  • Projector Screen.
  • Small Speaker System.

This is a substantial programme of renovation which we hope to get underway in 2015.  All is dependent upon grants being made and some fund-raising for matched funding.  Even if not all grants we have applied for are received we hope to get elements of the project underway with help from the local community.
