We are looking to engage a worker to help with marketing the Community Centre to potential hirers and to handle some of the administration issues around bookings and volunteer co-ordination. The Centre is at the Old School, Pentredŵr, which is in a rural community 4 miles north of Llangollen.  We have a grant from The Big Lottery for the post for 3 years during which time it is hoped that rental income will increase sufficiently to continue the position to some extent in the future.  We hope to obtain a mixture of community lettings, mainly one off sessions but some regular bookings, and as overnight accommodation for visiting groups requiring basic accommodation whilst exploring the area.  It is intended that the greater use of the community centre will bond together the somewhat dispersed community of Pentredŵr with the neighbouring communities in Llantysilio and Llangollen.

It is intended that the position would be filled by someone contracting services to the Community Association as the variable time commitments do not easily translate into a part-time employment. The contractor will be responsible for declaring and accounting  for all taxes and National Insurance contributions.  We would pay £5,000, quarterly at the end of the second month of each quarter, for an initial one-year contract which would be open to renewal for the two following years.  It is possible to split the contract into two elements, the marketing and the administration and so applications for either or both elements would be considered.  A Welsh speaker would be desirable but this is not essential.  Equally, the successful applicant will need to be reasonable local to perform some of the admin work – pre/post letting inspections, handover of keys etc although some of these functions can be shared with local volunteers – so less local applicants will be considered but their ease of access to the centre will be discussed in the recruitment process.

The Services required of the Liaison Worker can be summarized as working with the Community Association Management Committee to:

  • Engage with local community, plan and deliver events that suit their needs.
  • Promote the space for hire locally and further afield. This marketing activity will need initial research and planning and so experience in the field would be helpful but not essential. The initial effort for this will require a substantial part of the contractor’s time in a period of low administration on bookings due to the recent closure of the centre for extensive refurbishment works. Thereafter the marketing work is likely to reduce whilst the letting administration increases.
  • Taking bookings and keeping a diary of events/bookings, arrange for handover of keys and pre/post letting inspections.
  • Coordinate meetings with the Community Association members and feedback to them regularly.
  • Liaise with St Collens and the Conquering Hero centre to ensure everyone is clear about the range of facilities on offer at each venue and can pass bookings from one to the other when needed.
  • Lay the groundwork for establishing a community network, centred on the Community Centre, that will promote contact between local residents of all ages in order to improve communication within the community that will benefit residents of all ages and abilities.
  • Coordinate with Community Association and local volunteers to organise a cleaning and maintenance for the hall.

Anyone interested in the position should indicate this in writing along with a brief CV sent to the contact details below either by post or email by 31 October 2017. We hope to interview a short-list of applicants in November to make an appointment with effect from 1 December 2017.  This will be an informal process albeit that the funding provider has a number of requirements as to conduct of the recruitment procedure.
